A Hand Up, Not a Hand Out.

A Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor

or LCDC, is available for individual counseling. An LCDC plays a crucial role in helping people struggling with substance abuse disorders, by providing guidance and emotional support to clients as they recover from addictions. Sessions with an LCDC are frequently a condition of probation and having one locally makes it easier and less expensive to comply with the court orders or to get voluntary counseling services.

This is possible because Burleson County and Impact Burleson County have reached an understanding to jointly bring the services of a Licensed Clinical Dependency Counselor (LCDC) to those who need professional help in dealing with Chemical Dependency issues. Under the agreement, effective January 1,2021, the two organizations will share the expense of bringing substance abuse counseling services to residents of Burleson County. The Burleson Health Resource Center Director, Albert Ramirez, will coordinate with the LCDC, Ms. Diane Gradington to deliver her services in both the Caldwell and Somerville BHRC offices. Impact will provide space for group sessions under the direction of Ms. Gradington, and will continue to offer their Recovery Groups on Tuesday and Friday evenings as well as the meeting at the County Jail on Thursdays.

The need for the presence of an LCDC in the county has long been recognized by Mr. Ramirez, and by Mike Stone, the recently deceased Executive Director of Impact Burleson County. Until this year, county residents in need of substance abuse counseling, whether ordered by the court or not, were required to travel out of the county to find services. After six months of planning between Impact Burleson county, Burleson County and BHRC representatives, a contractual agreement was reached that makes affordable substance abuse counseling available to low-income county residents without insurance to cover such services. This program is a giant step forward to help the people of Burleson County with their recovery from addictions and habits that can derail their lives.

Additional information and referrals for the initial screening can be made by contacting the BHRC office at 979-567-3200 or through Impact’s Executive Director, JP Pate, or Group Director Matt Kelley at the Impact office, 979-575-7704.
