Our Story
The Impact Burleson County Foundation was formed as a part of Area 3:16, the non-denominational church planted by the Bakers and others. The basis for Impact was formed when Mike Stone began attending Area 3:16. The more we learned about Mike, his background and His heart, we knew God had placed him with us for this special calling. We discussed the fact that there was no Recovery Group presently active in the county, a county with a pressing need to help those caught in the throes of alcohol and drug addiction, as well as the problems of dealing with such persons in their life. Our calling was from God, so a Christ based program was our answer, and we began a Celebrate Recovery program. Attendance was sparse for a year or two, but Mike persevered and gradually numbers rose to 10-15 per week. We decided to begin a second meeting based on the Life Recovery Bible, and eventually grew to 30-40 attendees per week at the two meetings.
But there were other ways we felt called to serve those who came to us, so we moved the ministry from the church building to our own facility at its present location on S. Main St. This enabled us to hold bigger meetings, gave us a functioning kitchen to prepare the Celebrate Recovery meal, and also had space to keep food on hand for those with short term needs, and clothing for those needing them for work, job applications, and in the winter, coats and sweaters. Mike and I went to visit with “Jesus was Homeless” in Branson, MO, and saw God at work in a new way for us, so we came home and added a service that delivers meals one night a week to those who need the help, those in long-term motels and subsidized housing. Recently we added a dream of Mike’s to begin a recovery meeting at the local Burleson County Jail, which had not been available before.
Unfortunately, Mike contacted the Covid-19 virus in October of 2020, and passed on to God’s kingdom in November. He never got to see the jail ministry begin, nor did he get to see another of his dreams, the partnership with Burleson County that brought a licensed drug counselor to Burleson County, but it was his servant’s heart and perseverance that made these things possible. The people of Burleson County have Mike Stone to thank for our many services. God Bless.
